Helpful Competition Hints and FAQ

For those of you who are new to the world of Website Competitions, we would like to offer some helpful suggestions to make it a more enjoyable and successful time for you!

1. "I've joined. Now what do I do?"

The answer is simple. Monday through Thursday you are required to vote for yourself as per the Rules section of the Spirits of the Wind team pages. The reason behind this is that you deserve to credit yourself for a wonderful website, so if you don't vote for yourself each day how can you expect others to?

2. "Where do I vote?"

Excellent question! You can vote for yourself and any one on the team by visiting the one stop vote page for Spirits of the Wind. If you vote for all your team mates everyday, you will see a special icon next to your site name for that day. It tells the team that you voted for each of them.

3. "Why should I cheer?"

The reason is to rally your teammates into having team spirit and pride!

4. "Where do I cheer?"

You can place your daily cheers at the cheer board. To make cheering easier and faster to do each day, simply copy and paste up to five (5) Spirits of the Wind Team Cheers. There are many, many cheers you can choose. Have fun! Change them weekly.

You can use cheer images, text cheers, or you can use a combination of both in the cheer book.

To make cheering easier, copy and paste the cheer text and/or cheer image HTML code in notepad and save it to your computer. This way you can simply open the file each day and copy and paste from it to the Cheer Board.

You can find all these links by going to the top of this page or any page you visit at Spirits of the Wind.

5. "What if I can't write HTML Code?"

If you don't know how to write HTML code for a graphic, you'll find help on the Code Help page of the Mystickal Faes.

You can find the HTML code needed for ALL cheers, invites, proud member, and other graphics for SotW beneath the image (usually in yellow). If you find a page that has graphics but not HTML code, email me so I can fix it :)

6. "What is VE and why was I asked to do it?"

Simply put, VE stands for "Vote Exchange", which is when one fighter will give you one vote for your website if you will do the same and give one vote for their website. A vote exchange does not need to be within the same website competition that you are in. Someone from Triple Ace may ask you to VE with him/her because s/he likes your site.

VEing is a great way to boost your scores and make new friends!

7. "Where do you find people to vote exchange?"

Mystickal Realms has a list of some VE Boards, Clubs, and Groups which can help you out:

Mystickal Realms VE Wall
Fighters from around the Realm have joined to make it easier to find supporters

Beth Anne's VE Board

Coffee Grrls VE Club

Emeraldisle's VE Club

HeyYouSir's Vote Exchange Board

Kristine's Voting Booth

Myths & Legends VE Board

Open Door VE Club

Shadoe's Vote Exchange Board

8. "What is a Vote Reminder?"

A Reminder is an email that is sent to everyone who you ve with. Your VErs will tell you whether they like to be reminded daily (in which case you will send an email to them everyday) or weekly (which you send an email at the beginning of the fighting week).

Most people will use groups such as Yahoo! or Google, as a reliable mailing system to add, delete, or edit members. It will serve as a main mailing center so that you won't need to remember lots of email addresses.

You could set up two groups-- Daily VE Reminders and Weekly VE Reminders. Your VErs will signup for whichever reminder they prefer. Don't worry, lots of people make two groups. You won't get into trouble or anything. To learn how to add or edit members just follow the directions at the group's site:

Yahoo! Groups

Google Groups

9. "What are One Stop Voting Pages?"

This is a good place to gather all of your vote banners in one place so that your supporters can easily access them. If you're in more than one competition, or might be in the future, it can save you time copying and pasting all your links in the body of an email. You just direct your supporters to your One Stop Vote Page (OSVP).

While some VEs or visitors to your website are looking around they might end up placing an extra vote for you while on that page so it's definitely worth a try! Remember, you have to update your own OSVP every week if your vote link changes.

Check out this example of a one stop vote page: Amberly's Odds & Ends

10. "What are "Spirit Points" and "Eldritch Points"?

Spirit Points and Eldritch Points are what you receive as credit for the things you do as a team member. Voting for yourself, cheering, replying to emails, etc., gain you points which you can use to buy pictures, blinkies, etc., for your webpage.

Eldritch points are what SotW call spirit points. Each team has its own 'pet name' for spirit points. For example, Gothic Chamber calls their spirit points "blood points."

At the end of the fighting week, AFTER you have received the "End of the Week News", you can fill out your Eldritch Points Form. This is completely optional but if you do not fill it out, you will not receive any credit for the things you have done through out the week.

To read what you can get points for and the break down of points check out the Eldritch points info page.

To fill out a report form.

11. "What if I get bored?"

When not voting or signing guestbooks to invite other fighters to VE with you (hint hint ;), there are always activities at Mystickal Realms you can do to earn more Spirits Points or just have plain old fun!

Check out the games at Dr. Necessitor's Lab at Gothic Chamber or there are the fun-tastic games at the Activities page.

Hall of Ma'ati has games for you too! You just have to be apart of MR to play.

12. "Can I be more involved with Mystickal Realms?"

Absolutely!

You can join the staff and become part of the behind the scenes! You can be apart of the Birthday Club, Rangers, Wizard Welcomers, graphic designers; Anything you want--as long as there is a position opened of course :)
